Insights from the Hosts: Women in Games Career & Networking Expo 2025
We caught up with Cristina Sala, Talent Sourcing Specialist at Keywords Studios, Katherine Mould, Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist at Keywords Studios and Athena-Maria Enderstein, Head of DEIB at Keywords Studios - three of the hosts and driving forces behind the Women in Games Career and Networking Expo event.

At this year’s Women in Games (WiG) Career and Networking Expo, held in April 2025, a powerful theme emerged: representation, connection, and inclusion matter more than ever in the games industry. The event was a vibrant showcase of diverse voices and practical advice for women navigating - or hoping to enter - the world of games and interactive entertainment.
We caught up with Cristina, Kat, and Athena to hear their personal reflections and takeaways from the day.
Giving Voice to Stories and Building a Supportive Space
When asked about the most rewarding part of hosting the event, each speaker emphasized the importance of amplifying stories and experiences within the gaming space.
Cristina noted how fulfilling it was to watch speakers share their journeys and see the audience connect with empathy - especially during a time when the industry is facing morale challenges. Kat shared her passion for creating opportunities and supporting others on their professional journeys. For Athena, the event was an opportunity not just to highlight the talents within Keywords Studios, but also to make the gaming ecosystem more inclusive by showcasing successful women from across the industry.
Creating Connection and Community
All three hosts were unanimous in their belief that the event helped nurture a stronger, more connected community for women working in video games.
Cristina reflected on how attendees engaged deeply, eager to stay in touch and learn more. Kat pointed out the dual benefit of internal teams getting to share knowledge while inspiring other women looking to break into the industry. Athena described the deeper impact: creating “communities of action” that can collectively reshape the video games landscape.
Insights and Aha Moments from the Sessions
So, what stood out most from the conversations and panels?
Cristina observed that the games industry, perhaps more than many others, embraces people from diverse backgrounds - like those with music or arts training - and gives them space to thrive.
Kat was struck by how imposter syndrome affects even the most accomplished women in the industry, reminding us that everyone has something to offer.
Athena shared several practical takeaways, from applying cross-disciplinary skills to crafting effective portfolios and navigating career development. Her biggest insight? Careers in games are rarely linear - and setbacks are often part of the journey.
The Most Common Questions from Attendees
The Q&A segments gave the hosts further insight into what’s top of mind for aspiring game professionals:
- How do I break into the video game industry?
- What roles are available?
- How do I polish my portfolio or resume for game roles?
- How do I balance career growth with personal life?
These recurring questions speak to the need for continued support and resources to help women navigate their entry and advancement in the industry.
What Makes an Event Like This Successful?
Finally, the hosts offered thoughtful tips for anyone organizing a similar event:
- Mix up topics and formats to keep sessions dynamic and engaging.
- Consider a central theme to tie content together and experiment with more interactive formats, like games or quizzes.
- Ensure a range of speakers and voices to reflect the industry's diversity and address current trends and challenges.
- Most importantly, create a safe and inclusive space where speakers feel confident and attendees feel heard.
As Cristina summed it up: “It’s not easy to be creative when coordinating so many moving parts, but we pulled it off.”
