Integrating Discord’s Social SDK for Pax Dei
By being the first MMO to integrate the Discord Social Software Development Kit directly into the game, Pax Dei is supercharging their community both in and out of the game.
The Challenge
In Pax Dei, you won’t find NPCs handing out side-quests. Every building and structure you see in the game was custom made by players. Cities, markets and even the social structures are created by players. Fundamentally, Pax Dei is a game shaped by its community. That’s why, since its launch, community has been at the heart of Pax Dei’s development.
The Discord server launched with 2000 members and grew to 80,000+ at the release of Early Access a little over a year later. Our community management team have been integral in building that community, as well as reporting player sentiment back to the team behind Pax Dei to help inform and direct the game’s development.
The new Discord Social SDK represents an opportunity to streamline the way players connect, adding Discord’s trusted social functionality directly into the game.
For a game as fundamentally social as Pax Dei, and with a Discord community so active, implementing the SDK represented a significant opportunity for creating an even richer community experience.
Key Deliverables
- Strategic guidance and technical support for Discord Social SDK integration
- Real-time community sentiment monitoring and feedback loop setup
- Direct liaison between Pax Dei players, Mainframe Industries, and Discord
- Community education around new in-game social features
- Moderation and management of Discord server as it scaled from 2,000 to 80,000+ members
- Ongoing analysis and reporting to inform SDK feature refinement
The Solution
We worked with Mainframe Industries to support the integration of the Discord Social SDK into Pax Dei. As one of the first games in the world, and the first MMO ever, to integrate the SDK,
This feature is still new and experimental, which has meant it has been imperative for our community management team to engage actively with players to make sure the implementation is improving the social experience. Our team consolidated and communicated key community feedback to the client, set up methods for Discord employees to directly reply to players, and helped ensure the system worked as intended.
