Dublin-based KantanAI Contribute to European Language Equality Project
Sally O’Connor and Riccardo Superbo of KantanAI, a Keywords Studio, recently contributed to a deep dive on Machine Translation (MT) as part of a publication by the European Language Equality (ELE) project.
Funded by the European Union, ELE works to close the language barriers which hamper communication and transmission of information across the EU. Its aim is “to prepare the European Language Equality Programme, in the form of a strategic research, innovation and implementation agenda and a roadmap for achieving full digital language equality in Europe by 2030.”
For the release of the book, Sally and Riccardo worked in collaboration with other companies and universities to look at MT’s role in multilingual Europe. They touched upon issues such as training data, copyright and licensing which need to be addressed to ensure that European languages receive the correct support for MT.
The book is free to read here, and includes the results of the ELE Project, the findings of which form the basis of information for policy makers to help make decisions on funding for language technology.
